The RS-60CF is the flagship model of the Radiosport headset line made by Arlan. The manufacturer started developing these earphones for their own use when it was an active automobile driver. The goal was to have better intelligibility and greater comfort in wearing the headset for long hours. Also, a much better life would be achieved. The result is a high quality headset with radio microphone boom. Over 250,000 items from this line of products have been sold from the company's establishment.
Unlike other headphones, Arlan products are built considering modularity. You can also change microphone many years later. Along with the removable cable, it is easy to change the system from one brand to another. Various microphones, such as dynamic microphones and electret with different frequency responses, are available. This allows radiosposed headsets to be used with almost all radio models without any problems. The microphone capsules are mounted on a flexible arm. The arm can be rotated on a wide range, even fully up when not in use.
The following microphones are available:
- Dynamic RS-M207 capsule with narrow frequency response, ideal for DX and the contest
- Dynamic RS-M208 capsule with standard frequency response for daily use of QSO. Occasional use in a race or in a DX situation can be optimized with the radio equalizer.
- RS-M350-ADJ Electret capsule with narrow frequency resposable and adjustable signal level
- Electret RS-M360 capsule with standard frequency response for daily use QSO. Occasional use in a race or in a DX situation can be optimized with the radio equalizer.
Further tips on microphone selection see below.
The headset comes with an easy-to-access PTT button on one side. This allows you to continue the chat even when you are away from the radio station for a moment or when the headset is temporarily used on another radio without moving the PTT. To avoid a PTT cable leaning on the headset cable, Arlan proposes to use the (often unused) PTT access input found on most radios. For this purpose, a selection of adapters and a pedal switch are available. And even when using a multimode controller such as MicroHAM MicroKeyer-II or MicroKeyer-2R / 2R +, you can connect your Radiosport headset directly to a suitable and ready-to-use cable.
The connection cable from the headset to the radio is always removable and must be ordered separately. Professional Micro-XLR connectors are used on the side of the headset. Various headphone cables are available that allow direct connection to the radio without additional adapters. Headphones and connectors are wired for stereo, because many more recent radios also offer stereo audio. For example a VFO on one side, the second VFO on the other ear. This is useful for chasing the DX when the rare DX station is constantly monitored on one ear and the crowd lurking over the other. For older radios a "Mono" switch is provided.
Another headset Arlan specialty is the headphone connector. This 3.5mm phone connector is integrated on the right hand side of the headset and connects to a second set of earphones, for example for the second op during a contest. Or the copilot ... The headset RS-60CF weighs c. 550 g.
