The FTM - 400DR is the first transceiver introduced to be a fully compatible radio partner for use on the YAESU Dual Mode Fusion System. Compared to other digital modulation schemes within FDMA, C4FM has excellent communication quality (BER: Bit Error Rate features). C4FM is the standard method for professional communication devices in FDMA, and is therefore considered the main flow mode of digital communication in the future. The FTM - 400DR operates in three (3) digital modes and one (1) analog mode to meet your needs. This packed radio feature is our first Mobile Digital equipped with our new Automatic Selection Mode (AMS) feature, which instantly detects the mode of the received signal. The AMS function allows stress-free operation and eliminates the need to manually switch between communication modes.
· V / D mode (voice / data mode of simultaneous communication)
The digital voice signal is transmitted in half the bandwidth. At the same time the other half of the 12.5 kHz bandwidth channel is used for error correction of the speech signal and other data. By integrating the powerful error correction technology developed for professional communication devices, effective error correction codes provide the advantage of fewer interruptions to conversations. The Clear Voice technology developed for the C4FM FDMA Digital mode offers the ideal balance of error correction and sound quality.
· Voice FR mode (Voice Voice Full mode)
This mode uses the full 12.5 kHz bandwidth to transmit digital voice data. The greater amount of voice data allows high quality voice communication, offering superb sound quality for a "chew" with friends.
· Data FR mode (High Speed Data Data Communication mode)
This high-speed data communication mode uses the full 12.5 kHz bandwidth for data communication. The transceiver automatically switches to the FR data mode during instant image transmission, and can be used to transmit large amounts of data at high speed.
· The analog FM mode
Analog FM is effective when weak signal strength causes audio to drop in digital mode, and allows communication up to the noise level boundary. Even the use of Yaesu established low-power circuit designs offers greater efficiency than digital modes. This is the typical FM mode used by non-digital handhelds and more typical VHF / UHF mobile phones.

There is no need to lose communication with friends who have not yet chosen digital transistion. The FTM - 400DR performs perfectly using both analog FM and digital C4FM.

The FTM - 400DR is cross-band capable when it is in analog mode, a very important feature for emergency situations, etc.
Built-in GPS receiver and antenna provides location, time, direction and APRS® information. A GPS recording function is included. External GPS devices can be connected.
Respectful of the law (where required) Hands-free operation is available via the optional wireless Bluetooth ® unit and headphones. Bluetooth ® optional unit (BU - 2) and headset (BH - 2A) are required.
Snapshot function (Image of data transmission)
Just connect a MH-85A11U (optional) microphone with the camera. Press the shutter microphone button to take snapshots, and then image data can be displayed on the screen, and easily sent to other C4FM FDMA digital receivers.
The image data, which was sent by a member of the group, is displayed on the color screen. This image data also retains a record of time and GPS position data of the snapshot. It is easy to navigate in that position in the picture using the new feature on the track. Furthermore, it is possible to observe on the screen if the transmitted data have been successfully received by the user station. The instant image or received data is stored in a high capacity micro SD card. You can recall and send the image data at any time from the SD card. Images and data files can be easily viewed and edited using a personal computer.

Digital Monitor Group (GM) Function
The digital GM function automatically checks whether members registered in a group are within the communication range, and displays information such as distance and orientation for each call signal on the screen. This useful function not only allows you to see which friends are within reach of communication, but also allows you to see at a glance where all the members of the group are. Furthermore, this function can be used to send messages and image data between group members. Monitor Group Digital applies to direct communications between members, it is not applicable via a repeater.
This is the valuable feature for leisure public service group, search and rescue operations, and any number of other uses limited only by your imagination!
Advanced navigation function
Real-time navigation function allows position control at any time. In digital V / D mode, information such as position data is transmitted together with voice signals so the distance and direction to other stations can be viewed in real time during communication with them.
Go back Function
The Backtrack function allows navigation to a position recorded at the touch of a button. When hiking or camping, simply register your starting point or campsite before departure, and the distance and orientation from the current location are displayed on the screen.
This is the important feature for search and rescue operations, as well as casual walking and camping trips.
Voice guidance and recording function
Optional Voice Guide Unit (FVS - 2) announces the operating frequency, change and APRS ® current band messages. You can record up to 5 minutes of received signals, or continuously record the last 30 seconds of received audio.
