The DX-Patrol is a Software Defined Radio Receiver (SDR) with a wide range of reception frequency. In contrast to the usual convenient USB stick DVB-T receiver has an additional converter for shortwave. This is the reason for the wide frequency range from 100 kHz to 2000MHz. Additional bandfilters are provided for operation with the HF converter, resulting in much better dynamic range and good signal handling performance.
For HF operation, a frequency shift of -40MHz must be set.
Another feature is that the full frequency range is provided without gaps. With two independent antenna connectors (SMA) it is always possible to use the most suitable antennas without reconnecting when changing the bands. A small switch on the side of the receiver controls a low noise pin diode switch when switching from HF to VHF or vice versa. The current status (HF / VHF) is shown with a multicolour LED. The maximum sampling rate supported by the hardware is 3.2MS / s, but this is usually limited by the software. The result is a sampling frequency range of 96 kHz up to approx. 1 MHz, depending on the software.
Operation of the DX Patrol SDR receiver is possible with any software that supports DVB-T Stick based RTL2832. Possible programs are (among others):
- SDR # (Windows)
- HDSDR (Windows)
- sdr-radio.com (Windows)
- SDR Touch (Android)
- Gnu Radio (Linux)
- and more
Programs for special use such as rtl1090 or dump1090 can be used to receive ADS / B lights sent by aircraft. With this receiver, appropriate software and a suitable antenna plus cable it is easily possible to view the current air situation in the receiving position. You can also participate in networks that provide real-time flight data to the website such as fleightradar24.com. Other software allows reception of low orbit NOAA weather satellites on 137MHz - the possibilities of the Right receiver Patro lSDR are endless!
The installation of the DSP DX receiver patrol is simple. It is recommended not to use Windows USB drivers, but those provided via the 'Zadig' installer. Most of the above programs are free software products, you will find installation instructions on the various websites of program authors. own software or drivers are not provided with the receiver. Connection to the computer is via USB, a USB-A conector to USB-Mini-B cable is required. Thsi cable is not included.
